Conundrum

Conundrum. One of my favorite words! A conundrum presents a challenge. As I was thinking of clear conference I was reflecting on how I have struggled to justify the time and expense spent on what it takes for the local church to execute services on Sunday mornings. Why are we spending so much time and money on something that happens WITHIN the church? It seems we’re constantly looking for money and room in the budget to upgrade our gear for Sunday mornings. Here is where my CONUNDRUM comes in… WHY are we doing this? There’s no doubt that the building we worship in and the...

How Songs Are Built

Why do you need to know how a song is built? Why do you care? Because knowing how songs are built enables you to: ~ Learn it without “playing it on repeat 18 times” ~ Rehearse it as a band without just “playing the whole thing 8 times” ~ Know what you can change in it so it’s still fresh and worshipful after singing it 28 times ~ Encourage the congregation to sing more (without asking for it) ~ Adapt it to your band…(especially if your electric guitar player still thinks solid state is king) ~ Heroically decide not to play it when you realize (before Sunday morning) that your...

Be Together

Be Together. Not likely the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking about a church tech conference, is it? Be Better. Be Excellent. Be Unique. Be Relevant. Be Bigger. Be Amazing. Stop Putting Jesus in a Dogma Box

I want to push the boundaries! I hear all the time that “that’s the way we’ve always done things!” or “Look at them they are growing lets do that”. It makes me want to throw up, It makes me think of rancid cottage cheese mixed with milk and Limburger then set in the Sun for a day. O yea, then thing about drinking that. that is what i feel about the keeping up with the Jones type church. Instead of listening for Jesus and seeing where He is leading, we follow our ego or are afraid to rock the boat. I know that seems so harsh, but I have to say that the...

Technology and Eternity

Technology is advancing faster and faster. We are surrounded by more screens and gadgets than ever before. Facing these new mediums of communication can be intimidating and even frightening. With technology moving so quickly I sometimes get the feeling there is no time to THINK about anything.. just keep accepting the next update and figure it out as we go! I was considering all this when a sobering thought occurred to me; We are creating information that is meant to last for all eternity. Maybe THAT’s what we as human souls have in common with technology.. WE are created to last for...
